CONSULTANT COLORECTAL SURGEON
W/SPECIAL INTERESTS IN COMPLEX CANCER SURGERY
Full Time (10 PA’s)
We are inviting applications for a 10 PA Consultant in Colorectal & General Surgeon with Special Interest in Complex Cancer Surgery to meet our increasing demands for Colorectal Surgery out-patient clinics, surgery and in-patient care within St Mark\’s Hospital. The post offers opportunities to further develop special interest in Complex Colorectal Cancer surgery, as well as contribute to the academic and educational activities of the Directorate and academic work of St Mark’s Hospital.
The appointee will join the existing Colorectal Surgery team (15 Consultants) at St Marks Hospital in the provision of elective and acute Colorectal Surgery. In addition, they will be supported by a team of Complex Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialists, led by a Nurse Consultant to deliver secondary, tertiary and quaternary care.
St Mark’s has a strong history of specialised patient care, attracting patients from around the country and overseas, providing a good mix of patients with common and rare disorders. The essence of the Hospital has been a blend of clinical work, research and teaching. Research has extended from clinical to basic science. Within St Mark’s there are the following clinical departments: Surgery, Medicine, Histopathology, Radiology and Endoscopy.
The successful appointee will be responsible for:
- Outpatient and inpatient service for colorectal surgery cases at Central Middlesex Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital
- Teaching of postgraduates.
- Training of Specialist Registrars and post-CCT fellows
- Research in liaison with General Practitioners and other community based professional groups.
- Research in liaison with the planned Academic Department of Colorectal Surgery within Imperial College School of Medicine
- Participation in administration in liaison with the Department of Surgery at St Mark’s.
The successful candidate will be expected to take part in the Emergency On-call rota. The successful candidates will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing the most up to date evidence based care for patients. Applicants should have established skills in emergency general surgery, including laparoscopic surgery.
The Trust offers comprehensive GI surgical services and successful candidates will be expected to have an interest in Complex Cancer surgery and to manage patients with general surgical problems admitted to the Surgical wards. The successful candidate would be expected to have a strong academic and educational interest and track-record in these areas.
The successful candidate should possess full registration with the GMC, FRCS (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of CCST at the time of the interview, if currently within a training programme in the United Kingdom.
