What you will be doing;

An exciting opportunity has become available for to join our Engineering Team as a ERTMS Safety Assurance Manager, working in close collaboration with industry partners as part of the industry leading East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) as we migrate the East Coast Mainline to an operational ETCS railway and introducing the new ‘CAF\’ Fleet in to LNER.

Within this role you will be responsible for providing assurance to the business that both projects are being delivered in line with the company project management principles and are on track to be delivered on time and on budget. Working closely with the LNER ERTMS Team, Hitachi, LNER CAF Project Team, Network Rail and others. You will review project plans ensuring that they are fit for purpose, aligned with LNER business strategy and are providing value for money.

Successfully delivering this ETCS and the new fleet will be an integral part of our Business Plan, allowing us to carry more customers, more often and reliably, helping to grow the business sustainably and moving us closer to achieving our vision.

With this in mind, we have an exciting opportunity to join our Engineering Team as ERTMS Safety Assurance Manager.

As our ERTMS and New Trains Safety and Assurance Manager you will have a particular focus on plans which are in place to address safety critical activity or processes and ensure that these are of sufficient depth and quality to facilitate the seamless introduction of ERTMS and our new trains. You will provide assurance to the ORR & LNER that the change has been managed in line with internal SMS Change Validation processes & external obligations under relevant industry standards and will be responsible for ensuring a process is in place to make any necessary changes to LNER\’s Rail Safety Case.

You will also;

  • Ensure that a robust process is in place for identifying and managing Risks and Issues and appropriate management actions in place to address them.
  • Work with internal LNER functions to identify Risks and Opportunities for that function and ensure that plans are in place to address risks and maximise opportunities.
  • Manage the Change Validation process and ensuring changes to the LNER Rail Safety Case are made in a timely manner to facilitate the introduction of ERTMS and our new trains.
  • Rigorously review all safety-related plans to ensure they are fit for purpose and are tracked through to delivery.
  • Work closely with the ERTMS and New Trains teams to ensure activity and processes affected by the projects are addressed through changes to Standards and Safe Systems of Work.
  • What you\’ll need:

    We\’re looking for someone who is a dedicated, experienced Safety Professional who is determined and passionate to deliver impressive results. You\’ll also have;

  • A proven track record in applying the requirements of CSM-RA and ROGs
  • Suitable safety qualification such as IOSH/NEBOSH
  • Proven track record of successfully managing change.
  • Experience safety-critical processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to review complex documents and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience of working on a program or complex project.
  • Knowledge of techniques for managing successful projects.
