About the role

The City of London Academy Trust is seeking an exceptional and ambitious Head of English to lead a strategically important department at a pivotal stage in its development. This is a rare opportunity for an outstanding practitioner and leader to build a culture of excellence, raise achievement and deliver lasting improvement within one of the most influential subjects in the curriculum. We are looking for a leader who combines strong academic credentials with the energy, resilience and determination required to drive rapid and sustainable school improvement.

English sits at the heart of our ambition for every student. The successful candidate will lead the development of an engaging, knowledge-rich curriculum, establish consistently excellent teaching across the department and ensure that all students, regardless of background, are empowered to achieve their full potential. We are seeking a leader who thrives on challenge and is motivated by impact. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a department with significant potential, build a high-performing team and deliver measurable improvements in student outcomes, literacy and curriculum provision. You will work closely with senior leaders and the Trust to implement an ambitious improvement strategy and establish English as a beacon of excellence across the school.
