The role
At the heart of all our events is the participant experience, including their health and safety. The Clinical Medical Manager will oversee the planning and delivery of temporary medical resources across our event portfolio of 17 events, including the TCS London Marathon with 57,000 runners. This part-time role is critical in ensuring safe and effective medical operations to support mass participation sports events, working closely with the Medical Steering Group, internal teams and external stakeholders and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
1.Planning and Implementation of Medical Resources
- Develop and manage clinical logistics andpre-hospital resource plans and medical needs assessment for each event.
- Scope, procure, and implement medical requirements, including staff, equipment, and consumables, ensuring alignment with event risk assessments.
- Oversee the planning and deployment of pre-hospital resources to meet operational and clinical standards.
2.Stakeholder Management and Contracts
- Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders,including medical steering groups, safety advisory groups, and serviceproviders.
- Assist in the preparation and management of contracts and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with medical service providers.
- Liaise continuously with event leads and integrated care boards to ensure effective coordination and communication.
3.Event-Day Medical Operations
- Coordinate the delivery of medical services on the day of the event, ensuring efficient deployment of resources and adherence to plans.
- Workclosely with the Event Control Room to ensure that on the group medical provision aligns with the event needs
- Act as a point of contact for medical teams during events, resolving issues such as infrastructure failures or unpredictable conditions.
- Oversee briefing and debriefing of medical staff, ensuring post-event feedback is captured and addressed.
4.Compliance and Standards
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, clinical standards, and guidance for all medical operations.
- Develop and maintain medical event standards for LME in consultation with Medical Steering Group
- Stay updated on clinical best practices and ensure alignment with regulations through continued professional development.
5.Post-Event Evaluation and Reporting
- Compile post-event reports and feedback for stakeholders, identifying areas for improvement.
- Conduct de-brief meetings with medical teams and event organizers.
- Maintain accurate records, including risk registers and adverse event logs.
Required Skills
Technical
- Advanced knowledge in pre-hospital medicine, resilience planning, and mass participation event medical logistics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Budget management and contract negotiation.
Required Education and Professional Registration
- ALS qualification or higher.
- Paramedic registration with HCPC or equivalent.
- Additional certifications in ACLS, ATLS, and resilience planning.
Required Experience
Required
- Experience in pre-hospital care, registered with a recognised council.
- Experience in resilienceplanning and managing medical operations for mass participation events.
- Management experience in medical or event operations.
- Knowledge of major incident management, prehospital emergency medicine, massparticipation medicineand sports medicine.
- Experience with greenfield site medical planning.
