Role Purpose

Lead the marketing strategy for the newly formed Private Clients division, driving collaboration and cross-sales across insurance, mortgages & financial planning, rural, and private office business lines in the UK and overseas. Create and embed a customer-centric, insight-led strategy that delivers sustainable growth, leverages the Howden brand, digital and technology, and positions Howden as the trusted partner for high-value clients. Champion cross-functional collaboration, client experience, and innovation to unlock new commercial opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Growth
    • Build upon the existing Private Clients proposition, paving the way for strategic growth.
    • Develop and implement a multi-channel marketing strategy aligned to Howden’s growth ambitions, client trust agenda, and Private Clients vision.
    • Drive cross-sales and collaboration campaigns across business lines, working closely with divisional leads and stakeholders.
    • Identify and execute market opportunities to reach new segments, grow share of wallet, and enhance client lifetime value.
    • Lead the integration and positioning of acquired businesses within Private Clients, ensuring proposition alignment, brand and experience consistency.
  • Client Experience & Insight
    • Embed a market-leading, seamless-led client experience and contact strategy across the division, using deep customer insight, data, and technology to improve retention, cross-sell, and advocacy.
    • Design and govern end-to-end client journeys, identifying friction points and driving continuous improvement, growth and product penetration.
  • Digital, Data & AI Enablement
    • Work with the digital COE and champion the use of multi-channel campaigns leveraging digital tools, data, AI, and generative AI to enhance marketing effectiveness, client experience, and reporting.
    • Champion innovation and test-and-learn approaches to improve outcomes at scale.
    • Develop cross-divisional measurement tools, analytics, and reporting to track marketing efficiency, impact and ROI.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Influence
    • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, influencing priorities and investment decisions through commercially focused insight.
    • Foster a collaborative, client-centric culture across business lines, embedding experienced thinking into ways of working and governance.
    • Work closely with Retail marketing leadership and partner with Group brand, marketing, digital, sponsorship and communication teams to deliver Retail wide and group-led initiatives ensuring alignment.
  • People Leadership
    • Lead, manage, and motivate the divisional marketing team, driving performance, engagement, and continuous development.
    • Empower team members through recruitment, professional qualifications, and learning opportunities.
    • Champion diversity, inclusion, and sustainability in all aspects of team and client engagement.

Capability Requirements

  • Significant experience in strategic marketing and growth roles within complex, multi-line organisations (ideally financial services/insurance).
  • Proven track record of delivering multi-channel marketing strategies and campaigns that drive growth, retention, and measurable ROI.
  • Strong digital and data fluency; able to leverage technology to enhance insight, segmentation, and client experience.
  • Experience leading end-to-end client journey design to drive growth and retention.
  • Experience of marketing to HNW / UHNW audience segments is desirable.
  • Budget management and governance experience.
  • Experience of managing and developing high performing marketing teams.
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related discipline; relevant professional qualifications preferred.
