Department Name: Critical Care Transport

As a Critical Care Transport Respiratory Therapist, you'll be part of a highly specialized team that provides 24/7 emergency transport services. Working alongside a Transport Registered Nurse and under the guidance of Transport Physicians, you'll initiate and maintain critical care from the moment you arrive at the referring hospital through to the safe arrival at our facility.

This role is ideal for clinicians who thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments and are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families. You’ll be recognized as an expert in respiratory care, with responsibilities that include:

  • Advanced patient assessment and stabilization
  • Performing critical interventions under approved medical directives
  • Seamless coordination and communication during inter-facility transfers
  • Problem-solving in dynamic and often remote settings

We're looking for professionals with strong clinical judgment, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence in paediatric care.

The successful applicant must commit to continued employment and assignment to the Critical Care Transport Team at Victoria Hospital for a period of two (2) years after the training period.

Qualifications:

  • Current license from the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
  • NRP and PALS certification preferred
  • Two years previous work experience in a paediatric and/or level III neonatal critical care
  • Previous experience working on a Neonatal and/or Paediatric transport team preferred
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in assessment and intervention for critically ill neonatal and paediatric patients
  • Commitment to ongoing education and professional development
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and manage own feelings in challenging situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and adapt to changing situations
