London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is a world-class academic health sciences centre located in London, Ontario. As one of Canada's largest acute-care teaching hospitals, LHSC delivers world-class care and experiences, built on our commitment to excellence in research, innovation, and learning. The Office of Inclusion and Social Accountability was created in 2022 with a focus on health equity, accessibility, and Indigenous Health. The Equity and Social Accountability team plays a critical role in advancing just, accessible, respectful, and culturally safe care for all.
The Black Health team was established in May 2023 as part of the portfolio in alignment with the Ontario Health Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, and Anti-racism framework and the Black Health Plan for Ontario. The work of the Black Health team focuses on identifying and dismantling systemic barriers. Through engagement and collaboration with Black individuals and community partners, LHSC seeks to build trusting relationships to learn more about their healthcare experiences.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Equity and Social Accountability, the Manager, Equity and Black Health Strategy directs, controls and evaluates the delivery of department services. They are responsible for translating decisions of the program leadership into operations, by utilizing relationship management and working with internal and external partners to achieve necessary outcomes. The Manager is accountable for operational leadership of front-line team members and the planning, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of department services that advance equity, Black health, anti-Black racism, accessibility, inclusion, human rights, and language access priorities across LHSC.
The role provides leadership and guidance for Black Health patient navigation services, organizational equity education strategy, employee resource groups, committees, and community-informed initiatives that address the unique needs and experiences of diverse communities. Through consultation, education, partnership development, quality improvement, and evidence-informed planning, the Manager ensures LHSC delivers accessible, culturally safe, person-centered, and high-quality health services.
LHSC is committed to the principles of hybrid work and may offer this option to employees whose work can be performed in an alternate location. Successful candidates will be required to perform work within Ontario and must be available to work on location, as required. This role may be required to attend and engage with community partners on weekends and evenings.

What Skills Are Needed
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and healthcare quality standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of equity, accessibility, human rights, anti-racism, inclusion, and health equity principles within healthcare environments.
- Lived experience and respect for the cultural nuances, beliefs, and practices within the Black community regarding health and healthcare.
- Experience in advocacy related to policies and practices that promote health equity.
- Proficiency in French preferred.
- Strong business acumen and values-based leadership.
- Strong analytical skills that contribute to effective problem solving and decision-making.
What You Will Bring with You
- Successful completion of a recognized baccalaureate degree program in Social Work, Humanities, Social Sciences and/or a health care related discipline.
- Minimum of 3-5 years related professional and/or community experience in the academic, health or social service sector.
- Ability to effectively work with diversity, appreciating different opinions and backgrounds.
- Fluent and computer literate with computer systems such as email and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
