London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is a world-class academic health sciences centre located in the southwestern Ontario city of London. In partnership with our communities, we design and advance healthcare to support the wellness of the populations we serve.
Reporting to the Manager, CNS Ambulatory Care & EMU, the Electromyography (EMG) Technician, in conjunction with the consultant physician, determines the type and extent of testing necessary to provide the most complete and accurate diagnostic results based on factors such as patient history and symptoms, tests requested by referring physician and relevant pre-existing diseases or conditions. The EMG Technician operates and troubleshoots the EMG equipment to obtain, interpret and communicate these Nerve Conductions/EMG results to the consultant physician who is supervising the lab that particular day.
The Technician must evaluate and assess each patient's physical condition and degree of comfort throughout the testing process, rendering physical assistance where necessary to prevent undue discomfort during the test and providing physical assistance for patients with limited mobility to assume proper positions for the testing.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in a related area of study (e.g., Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Electrophysiology) preferred
- Certification from the Board of Registered Electromyography Technologists of Canada (B.R.E.T.C)
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology
- Well-developed patient assessment, planning, intervention, critical thinking and evaluation skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations
- Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way
- Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
- Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
- Ability to demonstrate an optimistic disposition toward new experiences and change in general
