About the role

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London and is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor and Metropolitan Police Service to deliver the priorities that will create safer London communities.

Do you have a passion for London and for improving the lives of the people who live, work and study here? Do you value the importance of ensuring that all members of the public have access to a police complaints process that is fair, timely and non-discriminatory? Can you work independently to review a range of information to produce outcomes that are balanced, proportionate and legally compliant?

Most public complaints made to the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) come with a right of review. Complainants can request a review if they are unhappy with the handling or outcome of their complaint. The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) Police Complaint Reviews Team (CRT) complete those reviews.

Police Complaint Reviews Caseworkers are responsible for:

  • Reviewing the outcomes of MPS complaints, and reaching fair, objective decisions in line with applicable regulations and statutory guidance.
  • Producing clear decision letters which communicate review outcomes.
  • Acquiring and assessing all relevant case documentation.
  • Assessing lengthy testimony against the legislative requirements of police complaint regulations.
  • Working with the MPS to recognise areas of thematic learning, and sharing best-practice approaches for the effective management of complaints and minimisation of any grounds for review.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across MOPAC to ensure complaints related correspondence is responded to appropriately.

Applicants will have a keen eye for detail and the ability to assess lengthy testimony against the legislative requirements of police complaint regulations when considering reviews. All members of the CRT work closely alongside their counterparts from the MPS and the Independent Office for Police Conduct to discuss outcomes and facilitate opportunities for collective learning.

Application Process

Candidates need to submit their CV and employment history and must answer the supplementary questions which are:

  • Describe a time where you worked closely with external stakeholders to achieve a desired outcome?
  • Describe a time when you had to deal with competing deadlines, and explain how you managed the situation.
  • Describe a time when you shared learning to improve a process.
  • Describe a time when you had to analyse a large volume of information to reach a decision.

If MOPAC receives a high volume of applications we reserve the right to close the advert early.
