Strategy and Communications sits at the centre of the organisation, bringing together several teams with organisation-wide remits and mutual collaboration opportunities. The work of the directorate’s teams includes delivery of major events, designing and leading public affairs or marketing campaigns, providing data, evidence and analysis, leading cross-organisational programmes, and making sure we plan for and can respond to emerging events or emergencies in our city.

The StratComms team sits within the External Relations unit. Our role is to help the Greater London Authority communicate more cohesively, more coherently, and with greater impact. We ensure that the organisation reaches the right audiences with priority messaging.

The Senior Communications Analyst will provide actionable insight around narratives about London, its leadership, and its policy priorities. The Senior Communications Analyst will also provide robust analysis on the salience and efficacy of the GLA’s own communications, including supporting campaign evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Proactive, timely analysis following key events, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of both campaigns and external narratives.
  • Coordination of insight from measurement and monitoring tools, incorporating feedback and insight from stakeholders, qualitative research and communications best practice.
  • Brief senior stakeholders across the GLA, providing actionable recommendations sensitive to the communications and political environment.
  • Rapid response to emerging topics and narratives, reputational risks or viral content, supporting fast‑paced communications and newsroom‑style operation.
  • Contributing to end‑of‑campaign evaluation reports with measures of effectiveness and recommendations for future work.
  • Development of new measures and indicators to monitor narratives about London and the impact of major policies, using a mix of in‑house, platform native, bespoke and external tools.
  • Lead on social media analytics and performance reporting across owned and paid channels, including the development of automated dashboards and end‑of‑campaign evaluation reports.
  • Confident use and tailoring of a wide variety of monitoring and measurement tools, as well as the ability to adapt and integrate additional data sets (such as polling) and data providers.
  • Develop new data tools and reproducible data pipelines to automate reporting from different datasets and data providers, and incorporate these into key dashboards and reporting products.
  • Support a range of internal and external stakeholders in their own reporting and analysis through training and advice on specialist topics.

What your day will look like

  • Building, updating or reviewing automated dashboards to monitor campaigns and communications.
  • Using analysis tools to monitor narratives about London.
  • Writing briefs for senior stakeholders, combining analysis from multiple platforms and sources to create a complete picture of the communications landscape.
  • Presenting findings on new and emerging narratives about London, its leadership, or key policies.
  • Contributing to end‑of‑campaign evaluation reports with measures of effectiveness and recommendations for future work.
  • Working with campaign leads to establish KPIs and benchmarks for new campaigns.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with stakeholders across the GLA.

Qualifications

  • Experience of open‑source monitoring and analysis, collection methodologies, and ability to formulate robust predictive or deductive assessments.
  • Expertise in platforms including Brandwatch (including social media management), Meta Business Suite and Ads Manager, Spike/Newswhip, and Supermetrics.
  • Expertise in learning and adopting new data and reporting platforms, as well as managing external agencies and data providers.
  • Expertise in building automated dashboards and other reporting mechanisms to monitor and evaluate communications performance.
  • Experience producing high‑quality reports and recommendations in time‑sensitive environments, ideally in emergency response, crisis communications or political settings.
  • Understanding of current affairs, international relations, and developments affecting London.
  • Understanding of information management principles and data protection legislation and their workplace applications.
  • High‑level communication skills with a track record of advising decision makers and staff on complex issues.
  • Experience building and maintaining working relationships across professional boundaries.

Desirable and Other Considerations

  • Experience in communications, crisis management and/or intelligence analysis is desirable.
  • Ability to work on weekends or out of hours, if required.
  • Willingness to undergo (if required) National Security Vetting and Metropolitan Police Non‑Police Personnel Vetting; residency in the UK for five years required.
