This role takes an office-first hybrid approach here at London Gatwick, with three days a week in the office and two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.

As a Commercial Manager at London Gatwick, you will have the unique opportunity to be part of the growth and development of one of the world’s busiest airports. We are expanding our Airfield Programme team, and in this role, you will be instrumental in the implementation and delivery of effective cost and commercial processes for significant multidisciplinary projects of all aspects of airside projects, including runway resurfacing, complex pier extensions, and runway maintenance. Project values range from £20m to £150m. You will work across the full project lifecycle alongside skilled and knowledgeable teams throughout the construction department. These are exciting projects that will drive significant improvements in customer experience, enhance our commercial income stream, whilst providing increased capacity that paves the way for future airport growth.

Reporting into the Lead Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in the team, responsible for all cost and commercial aspects of a project, ensuring that all performance targets are met, if not exceeded. Other duties include:

  • Leading and managing the project’s commercial team with values in excess of £150m.
  • Motivating, mentoring and coaching the team to achieve their best.
  • Managing the development and maintenance of accurate project cost plans and cost estimates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Leading all change control for the project (and associated smaller projects where required).
  • Controlling the management of the project budget, ensuring value for money and validation of costs.
  • Leading the close-out of all contracts within the project, including the development and implementation of project close-out plan(s).

The live environment at London Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, problem-solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in diverse projects from inception to completion whilst working alongside multiple internal and external stakeholders. In addition, this role requires:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering, business or construction-related field.
  • Membership of a professionally recognised cost organisation, such as RICS.
  • Experience as a Commercial Manager/Senior Quantity Surveyor on multi-year programmes/projects with a value typically in excess of £100m in a relevant industry.
  • Experience in leading, mentoring and developing teams.
