About the role
As a Senior Legal Counsel you will work with LEVC, an established UK business responsible for the London Taxi, and with Geely Auto UK, a new business and brand in the UK and distributor of Geely new energy vehicles in the UK, to deliver the companies’ visions providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice at all levels, managing legal and regulatory risk, protecting the brand, informing decision making.
Business Partnering & Commercial Support
- Act as a trusted adviser and first point of contact for legal queries from the LEVC business teams and the Geely Auto UK Marketing team.
- Lead delivery of commercial contracting for these teams, including negotiation, drafting, review, interpretation and ongoing contract support.
- Support and deliver key legal workstreams to develop Ansty manufacturing, operations and any new vehicle programmes.
- Build strong, planned stakeholder relationships and support teams to engage with Legal effectively and consistently.
- Work with stakeholders to maintain and improve policies, procedures and guidance relating to legal matters, contracting and governance.
Specialist Services – Intellectual Property
- Partner with Marketing teams, the Geely Group and relevant stakeholders to protect the brands and support IP strategy.
- Manage and maintain the LEVC IP portfolio (including registration, renewals and enforcement), working with appointed trademark attorneys.
- Own the IP budget and external spend, including billing oversight for trademark attorneys and other IP suppliers.
- Ensure appropriate IP licence arrangements are in place between Geely Group, Geely Auto UK and LEVC.
- Liaise with the Geely Group IP team and respond to requests for support on IP-related matters.
- Handle other IP matters as required, including brand protection and infringement issues.
Wider Legal Team Support
- Support the legal team with commercial contracts, disputes/claims, contract termination and general commercial advice for both LEVC and Geely Auto UK.
- Provide pragmatic legal risk analysis aligned to business priorities, and make clear recommendations under time pressure.
- Contribute to business planning and strategy, including horizon scanning for legal/regulatory developments and advising on impacts.
- Deliver training to the business on relevant legal topics and support compliance awareness.
- Develop and maintain templates, precedents, playbooks, policies and procedures to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Instruct, manage and oversee external legal service providers, ensuring quality delivery and budgetary control.
- Collaborate with the Geely Group legal team and other representatives, including responding to information requests.
Experience to Succeed
- Qualified lawyer (England & Wales) with a current practising certificate.
- 7+ years' PQE to perform the role, and gained in private practice, in-house, or ideally a combination.
- Strong experience advising on commercial contracting, wider commercial legal matters, and brand protection and brand management.
- Experience of B2C sales / consumer advertising and marketing, with a knowledge of related compliance principles.
- Proven experience business partnering with senior management and their teams across multiple functions.
- Automotive/manufacturing experience is desirable as well as experience working in culturally diverse businesses.
- Strong commercial acumen and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across different business models.
- Confident and resilient, comfortable managing complexity, competing priorities, and sensitive/high-profile matters with professionalism and discretion.
