About the role

To support the GC3 Creative Exterior Detail Design team in the development and delivery of high-quality exterior detail design solutions, contributing to the creation, refinement, and realisation of exterior components in line with brand vision, design intent, and production requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all aspects of exterior detail design, leading the development of exterior detail concepts, renderings, and the tracking of both digital and clay models.
  • Deliver high-quality detail design across exterior components, including front and rear lamps, wheels, mirrors, and exterior jewellery parts.
  • Demonstrate strong cross-cultural communication skills, effectively interpreting requirements and delivering design solutions aligned with project and brand objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with, and provide guidance to, digital and physical modelling teams to ensure design intent is accurately realised.
  • Use visualisation and display software to analyse products, develop concept ideas, and produce compelling renderings and presentation material.
  • Apply proven automotive design experience, with a strong foundation in hand sketching and rendering, able to rapidly capture and communicate creative ideas.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of AI-based design tools to support the creation of photo-realistic visualisations of design work.
  • Support and collaborate closely with design colleagues in China, while providing hands-on support for exterior model builds in both the UK and China, ensuring consistent design intent, quality, and execution.

Experience to succeed:

  • Circa 8+ years of experience in automotive exterior design and styling, with significant contribution to conceptual and production programmes; OEM studio experience preferred (flexible based on demonstrated capability).
  • Proven participation in five or more exterior detail design projects delivered to mass production; experience in luxury brand exterior design is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of exterior component design, including engineering and manufacturing constraints, with the ability to balance creative intent and production feasibility.
  • Excellent sketching and rendering presentation skills, able to clearly communicate design intent throughout all stages of development.
  • Educational background in Automotive Design, Transportation Design, or Industrial Design, preferably from a recognised art or design institution; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
  • High level of proficiency in industry-standard design and visualisation tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Alias, Showcase, VRED, and AI-based visualisation software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and consistently high-standard design output.
  • Highly organised and proactive, with strong problem-solving ability, effective design management skills, and the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced studio environment.
