This role leads the formulation and execution of Geely UK’s IP strategy in accordance with Geely Holding Group’s IP policies, systems and management protocols, and oversees the establishment and full implementation of corporate IP management systems, confidentiality protocols and IP commercial operation mechanisms. The position takes overall responsibility for the full lifecycle management, maintenance and protection of the company’s IP assets, oversees risk control of IP licensing businesses, and standardises IP licensing strategies, commercialisation rules and operational implementation standards. The core objective is to safeguard the company’s core automotive technology IP assets and support sustainable and compliant commercial monetisation across global markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver full lifecycle ownership management of corporate IP assets, including automotive technology patents, technical solutions, software copyrights and original technical materials; build and maintain standardised IP asset ledgers and conduct daily operational management.
  • Liaise with external IP agency partners from Geely Holding IP agency resource pool, driving the full progress of IP filing, registration, update and maintenance for both global and UK local IP assets.
  • Define and verify IP ownership for in-house developed, co-developed and externally entrusted technical achievements, ensuring clear ownership attribution and complete procedural documentation to eliminate potential ownership disputes and legal uncertainties.
  • Oversee rule review and IP compliance verification for all corporate technical IP operations, covering IP licensing and all forms of technical commercial cooperation projects.
  • Guided by Geely Holding Group’s IP policies, systems and management protocols, develop unified standardised operational specifications and bottom-line compliance requirements for IP management, establishing a systematic, standardised and executable company IP management framework.
  • Lead the drafting and review of IP clauses for all technical cooperation agreements, provide professional support for commercial negotiation processes.
  • Monitor third-party IP infringement activities against the company’s automotive technology assets, collect valid infringement evidence, and support complaint handling, rights defence and commercial dispute resolution.
  • Conduct internal risk inspections for in-house R&D projects, proactively identify potential third-party IP infringement risks, and implement preventive control measures to avoid litigation and contractual disputes.
  • Participate in the construction and iterative optimisation of the Geely Holding Group’s unified IP operation management system and institutional processes.
  • Support the resolution of Group-level and/or company-level IP disputes and litigation cases, providing professional IP support.
  • Undertake other IP management and IP tasks and responsibilities as assigned by Geely Holding IP department leadership.

Experience to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Law, Intellectual Property Engineering, Science, Technology, Business, or a related discipline or patent law qualification.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in intellectual property management or patent law.
  • Demonstrable expertise in IP portfolio management, licensing, compliance, and risk management; IP protection and litigation handling within the UK automotive and technology industry sectors is strongly preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of UK IP law with understanding of international frameworks.
  • Candidates holding patent attorney certificates or relevant IP legal professional qualifications are advantageous.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement IP strategy and governance frameworks.
