Right now, we’re seeking an experienced Lead Developer to take a key role in driving the next phase of our technology transformation. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of our new CRM platform, transitioning from .NET Framework to .NET 8 MVC within a dynamic and forward-thinking finance organisation.
As Lead Developer, you’ll oversee the full software development lifecycle, ensuring delivery of robust, high-quality solutions while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and supportive team culture.
The role involves guiding our move from legacy .NET Framework systems to modern .NET 8 and Azure-based architecture. You’ll work closely with project managers, product owners, infrastructure specialists, and key business stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, to a high standard, and with real business impact.
We’re looking for someone who loves a mix of leadership and hands-on development. You’ll provide technical direction, review architecture and code, and stay close to the technology — contributing heavily to coding as part of the day to day and ensuring the team follows best practices and security standards. You’ll also play a vital role in improving how we work, championing agile methodologies, and introducing new tools and techniques that make us better every sprint.
Our technical environment spans a range of modern and established technologies, including .NET (Framework 4.5 through to .NET 8), C#, MVC, Web Services, Function Apps, and Azure. On the data side, we use SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos, Azure Storage, and Message Queues. Experience with front-end technologies like Vue, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and SASS would also be beneficial, though the role primarily focuses on back-end development.
You must act with integrity, due care, skill, and diligence, be open and cooperative with the FCA, the PRA and other regulators, pay due regard to the interests of customers and treat them fairly, observe proper standards of market conduct, and act to deliver good outcomes for retail customers.
About you: You’re an experienced software engineer with around seven years in development and proven leadership or mentoring experience. You’re skilled in C#, MVC, and SQL, with solid front-end knowledge across JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS/SASS — and experience with Vue or another modern JavaScript framework is a big plus. You’re comfortable working in Azure DevOps, with a good understanding of unit testing, mocking, and Agile/Scrum methodologies. You know your way around monolithic, microservice, and SOA architectures, and you bring a strong grasp of data modelling, secure coding, and software design best practices.
A natural communicator and problem solver, you can translate technical detail into clear direction and collaborate effortlessly with stakeholders across the business. Detail-oriented and decisive, you take pride in delivering secure, scalable solutions that make a real impact.
We’re after someone who brings not only technical expertise but also strong people skills — someone who can lead by example, conduct regular one-to-ones, and foster a positive, collaborative team culture. You’ll be comfortable communicating with stakeholders across the business, providing clarity on project status, risks, and opportunities, and always looking for ways to improve.
Why join L&C? Working at L&C means being part of an environment of respect and equality. We’re entering an exciting period and it’s a great time to join us. We’re already the UK’s No.1 online mortgage broker but we don’t want to stop there.
As an employee of L&C, you’ll get:
- A starting holiday entitlement of 25 days, plus your birthday & bank holidays off non inclusive of your holiday allowance
- The challenges and opportunities that make us develop professionally & personally
- Access to our comprehensive Employee benefit and support schemes, from wellbeing to perks and discounts
- Being part of a respectful working environment
- Comprehensive benefits and employee support programmes
