Role Purpose:

We are seeking a dynamic, pro active and experienced Communications Manager to lead our media and communications strategy. This individual will play a pivotal role in promoting the club’s identity, managing media relationships, and ensuring exceptional delivery of matchday and non-matchday communications.

A key responsibility will be serving as the primary point of contact for WSL broadcasters such as Sky Sports and BBC, ensuring smooth coordination, accurate dissemination of information, and a consistent, professional club presence across all media touchpoints.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is keen to help shape how our club is seen and remembered.

This is a new position within the business, so the responsibilities are not set in stone. We need someone who can jump in, get things done and work with the senior leadership team to shape the future of the club.

Main Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Act as the main liaison for WSL broadcasters, including Sky Sports and BBC, to facilitate interviews, media access, matchday operations, and timely content delivery.
  • Be the main point of contact for the clubs appointed communications and PR agency
  • Lead and implement the club’s overall communications strategy, ensuring alignment with its brand, values, and strategic goals.
  • Manage all press and media relations, including drafting press releases, organising media briefings, and overseeing press accreditation.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and broadcast producers to generate positive coverage.
  • Oversee matchday media operations, including media zone setup, mixed zone facilitation, press conferences, and live media support.
  • Collaborate with commercial and marketing teams to amplify partner activations and sponsorship communications.
  • Work closely with the Content and Media Manager, and Media Exec and offer support in terms of the tone and messaging within social media content
  • Monitor media coverage and social media engagement, reporting key metrics and insights to leadership.
  • Provide media training and support to players and staff as required.
  • Manage crisis communications and reputation management in coordination with senior leadership, and the clubs appointed comms and PR agency .
  • Ensure compliance with FA, WSL, and broadcast partner regulations and requirements.
  • Other ad-hoc duties as assigned from time-to-time by management

What we are looking for

Qualifications and Training

  • Degree level or equivalent qualification in a communications/ media/ marketing related subject

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a senior communications, PR, or media relations role, ideally in elite sport or broadcast-facing environments.
  • Deep understanding of the UK media landscape, especially sports broadcasting and digital content.
  • Strong experience in liaising with national broadcasters and media partners.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Highly organised with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during matchdays or special events.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within women\'s football or a high-performance sporting environment.
  • Knowledge of FA and WSL media protocols and procedures.
  • Experience in crisis communications and/or reputation management.
