The Critical Services Engineer for the Baggage Handling System (BHS) at London City Airport plays a vital role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of baggage system operations.
This position involves technical investigations on critical assets, conducting inspections, reporting on asset conditions, and planning enhancements to the BHS.
The engineer will also support various stakeholders including the Building Services Project Manager and Facilities Management (FM) teams with technical activities when required. This role requires a strong understanding of technical assurance processes and safety regulations, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and security compliance as mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The team will work closely with project teams to ensure that all systems are operationally effective, compliant with safety standards, and meet the highest quality assurance benchmarks.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities of the Role:
Technical Investigations on Critical Assets:

Conduct thorough technical investigations on mechanical, electrical, and control systems within the BHS.

Analyse failure modes and identify root causes to prevent future occurrences.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions based on investigation findings.
BHS Asset Inspections and Reporting:

Perform regular inspections of BHS assets to ensure operational integrity and compliance with industry standards.

BHS Enhancement Design & Planning:

Participate in the design and planning of enhancements to the BHS to improve performance, capacity, and reliability.

Project Support:

Ensure all technical activity plans meets legal requirements and is submitted to project manager in a timely manner.
Technical Training for Baggage Engineering Team:

Develop and deliver training programs with building services TACM (Training and Compliance Manager) aimed at enhancing the skills of the baggage engineering team.

Focus on areas such as system operation, maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
Compliance with Health & Safety Regulations:

Understand and comply with health and safety regulations.

Understand and comply with security protocols by regulatory bodies such as the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Collaboration & Communication:

Foster effective communication among team members, stakeholders, and external partners.

Engage in regular meetings to discuss ongoing projects, challenges faced in operations, and potential solutions., 40-hour week Mon-Fri with flexibility to cover weekend for technical incidents, projects and planned major maintenance.

Minimum of 5 years M&E experience in conveyor belt systems including PPM, fault diagnosis and rectification

Demonstratable knowledge of M&E Fault Diagnostics

Strong ability to understand technical drawings and schematics

Strong analytical skills for conducting technical investigations.
