Job Title–  NVQ Assessor (Health and Social Care)

Location- Edgware

Reports to– Head of College.

Salary: 30K – 35K

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and qualified NVQ Assessor to join our team at London Cactus College. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and supporting learners in their NVQ qualifications across a variety of vocational areas. This role involves providing support, guidance, and feedback to ensure students meet the required standards and successfully achieve their qualifications.

Key Responsibilities                                                                                                      

Assessment of Learners

·       Assess NVQ students in the workplace and college setting across various vocational areas in Health & Social Care

·       Conduct assessments using a variety of methods (observations, portfolio reviews, oral questioning, etc.) to ensure learners demonstrate competence in all required units.

·       Ensure that assessments are carried out in line with awarding body requirements and internal policies.

Support and Guidance

·       Provide regular support and guidance to learners, including feedback on their progress, identifying areas for improvement, and suggesting additional learning resources.

·       Offer coaching and mentoring to learners to ensure they remain motivated and engaged in their learning journey.

·       Work closely with learners to help them understand the requirements and expectations of their qualification.

Record Keeping & Documentation

·       Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, progress, and learner achievements.

·       Complete all necessary documentation (e.g., assessment plans, progress reviews, feedback forms) in a timely and organised manner.

·       Ensure all learner portfolios and evidence meet the required standards for submission to awarding bodies.

Internal & External Verification

·       Participate in internal verification processes to ensure the accuracy and consistency of assessments.

·       Support external verifiers during audits and assessments to ensure compliance with awarding body standards and regulations.

Quality Assurance

·       Adhere to quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of assessment practice.

·       Ensure that assessments are fair, consistent, and transparent, meeting all requirements set out by regulatory bodies and awarding organisations.

·       Contribute to departmental audits and evaluations to ensure continuous improvement in the assessment process.

Collaboration & Communication

·       Work collaboratively with other assessors, tutors, and staff within the college to ensure learners receive comprehensive and consistent support.

·       Maintain effective communication with employers, mentors, and other stakeholders regarding the progress and development of learners.

·       Liaise with external parties (where applicable) to support learners’ success.

Professional Development

·       Stay up to date with changes in NVQ frameworks, qualification standards, and sector-specific developments.

·       Participate in ongoing training and development activities to ensure that assessment practices remain current and in line with best practices.

·       Attend departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum planning and evaluation.

Person Specification

Essential

·       A recognised qualification in the vocational area(s) being assessed (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).

·       Assessor qualifications (e.g., A1, D32/D33, TAQA) or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe.

·       Previous experience in assessing NVQs in a relevant vocational area.

·       Good knowledge of the assessment process and quality assurance procedures for NVQs.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with learners and employers.

·       Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a caseload of learners.

·       Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.

Desirable

·       Teaching qualification (e.g., PTLLS, CertEd, PGCE).

·       Experience in delivering training or supporting learners in the workplace. (Health and Social Care)

·       Knowledge of the latest developments in vocational education and apprenticeships. (Health and Social Care)

·       Experience in using e-portfolios or other digital assessment tools.

Working Hours

·       Full-time (or part-time, as applicable).

·       Some evening or weekend work may be required, particularly for site visits or assessments in the workplace.
