Due to recent expansion, we are seeking a highly motivated Ward Manager to join our acute nursing team on our newly opened 14-bed dedicated Acute Medical Ward at The Wellington Hospital—the UK’s largest private hospital, rated “Good” by the CQC. This ward supports our on-site Acute Admissions Unit, providing exceptional care to medical patients in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

As Ward Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical and operational management of our new inpatient medical ward, ensuring the highest standards of patient care through effective leadership. You will oversee both the nursing and administrative teams, fostering a positive and supportive environment. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise in complex wound management and tissue viability, work alongside some of London’s top consultant physicians, and gain experience in complex discharge planning. You will also play a vital role in geriatric care, delivering patient-centred, holistic care that prioritises the well-being of older adults.

As our ward specialises in caring for geriatric patients, our nurses have the chance to build strong relationships with their patients, offering support to both them and their families as they transition back to their home environments. You will also play a key part in upholding quality and governance standards, working closely with the Matron to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. Engaging with consultants is a crucial aspect of the role, ensuring they feel welcomed and supported while their patients are under our care. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to contribute to budget management and strategic planning, helping shape the direction of the ward. You will be instrumental in developing a specialised medical service, ensuring patients receive exceptional, personalised care.

What you’ll do:

  • Provides expert clinical leadership, guiding the multidisciplinary team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Lead by example as a role model, maintaining high standards, promoting a positive learning environment and supporting staff development.
  • Manage staffing, recruitment, appraisals and performance, ensuring safe skill mix and effective team functioning.
  • Oversee budgets and resources efficiently while maintaining a safe, supportive environment for both patients and staff.
  • Drive quality improvement, ensure patient dignity and safety, and demonstrate strong leadership and teamwork to enhance patient care.
