We’re looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our Histology team at our HCA Laboratories based in Shropshire House. HCA Laboratories has over 35 years’ experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.
Shift times: 07:30-16:00, 08:00-16:30, 10:00-18:30, 12:00-20:30. Please note, weekend work will be required too.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- To understand and carry out the policies as recorded in the HCA Quality Policy.
- To help ensure that the department meets the requirements for accreditation under the ISO 15189 standards.
- To contribute to the safe and efficient running of the histology service.
- To ensure that the welfare of the patient is paramount.
- To apply the quality system as performed in the department to all aspects of the working process.
- To include reading and signing all relevant documents on Q pulse. SOPs to be followed as recorded.
- Demonstrate a positive and responsive attitude to the work of the laboratory, to other members of the team and to service users.
- To liaise with pathologists, the histology team and external service users to ensure the histology pathway is correct.
- Liaise with technical and clinical staff to ensure optimal service delivery.
- Acceptance of histology samples and registration of patient data using the in-house software.
- Routine maintenance of the laboratory equipment.
- Maintain good housekeeping within the dept.
