About the role
Our Housing Service is committed to safeguarding the well-being of our residents. With approximately 10,000 council homes and 2,000 leaseholder properties under our care, ensuring the safety of our residents is paramount. We are seeking an Assistant Director for Housing Repairs and Planned Works to join our talented team within the Housing Service. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for:
- Efficient management of maintenance and inspection contracts to ensure our buildings meet the highest safety standards.
- Leading the strategic direction of the repairs and planned maintenance service, collaborating with teams across the council and key external partners.
- Advising senior leadership on high-level and complex repairs matters, driving service improvements and ensuring residents receive a timely, responsive service.
- Managing complex relationships, including politicians, key stakeholders and partners, residents, and a range of services across the council at a senior management and operational level.
- Spearheading the delivery of the council’s planned works programme to deliver decent homes targets and energy efficiency ambitions.
- Ensuring effective contract management in accordance with our organisation's performance framework.
As a strategic leader in the Housing Assets service area, your leadership will also play a pivotal role in contributing to Mission Waltham Forest. Specifically, your efforts will align with our vision to ‘Make Waltham Forest a great place to live and age well.’ By ensuring all residents can make the most of their strengths and live healthier, longer, and more independent lives, you will directly contribute to our goal of creating a more equal borough by 2030.
Key responsibilities
- Delivery of responsive and planned repairs & maintenance across the Council’s housing stock.
- Effective financial management of the Council’s housing repairs & maintenance programme, including cost control and income maximisation.
- Driving the delivery of large and complex Repairs & Maintenance programme.
- Leading and contributing to business planning, budget management, identifying service improvements, and harnessing technology to deliver services that demonstrate value for money.
- Managing a team of approximately 40 people.
- Close collaboration with the Assistant Director for Strategic Asset Management and Compliance.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Educated to Degree level.
- Relevant RICS and/or CIOH qualifications are desirable.
