We’re seeking a dedicated Social Care Assistant to support children with disabilities and their families as part of our Children with Disabilities Specialist Team.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of children’s plans in consultation with key professionals.
- Resolve non‑routine customer/service queries.
- Assess and prioritise telephone and personal callers and respond appropriately.
- Provide relevant, accurate, understandable, and timely information.
- Promote a positive image of the Council.
- Maximise the life chances of disabled children through education, health care and leisure opportunities.
- Engage directly with children and families and provide supportive, targeted intervention to achieve identified outcomes.
- Complete timely children‑in‑need reviews in accordance with Directorate policy and national legislation.
- Manage and keep a record of visit schedules and contacts for appropriate children, supporting the smooth running of procedures.
- Provide support to children with disabilities and their families to the required standards and time‑frames.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in health and social care; minimum one year working with children and families.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of issues relating to children in need and safeguarding, including relevant legislation, guidance and procedures.
- Experience of service delivery which is culturally sensitive and responsive to a multi‑cultural community.
- Able to prioritise and work effectively under pressure.
- Managing a quality service by ensuring key performance indicators are met.
- Ability to work well within a team and maintain clear reporting lines to line manager and senior team members.
- Agile behaviours and ability to respond to change.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Commitment to the participation of children, young people and their families at an individual and service level.
- Flexibility to work unsocial hours in emergency situations.
Desirable:
- Understanding of the Children Acts 1989 and 2004 and related legislation.
- Awareness of current issues in childcare policy and practice.
