This role provides specialist advice and support to families who choose to home educate, ensuring that children receive a suitable and effective education in line with statutory requirements. The post holder works closely with internal teams and external partners to safeguard children, promote positive educational outcomes and uphold the local authority's duties under the Education Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct home education visits and assessments, offering guidance on curriculum and learning approaches, monitoring cases, and escalating concerns where necessary.
- Contribute to policy development, maintain accurate records, provide training to professionals, and represent the local authority in EHE-related forums.
- Foster collaborative and inclusive relationships with families and young people.
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience working in education settings, ideally with a focus on SEND or inclusion.
- Strong knowledge of the legal framework relating to Elective Home Education (EHE).
- Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, Education Acts, and Children and Families Act 2014.
- Knowledge of Working Together to Safeguard Children guidance.
- Understanding of the National Curriculum and relevant educational standards.
- Experience in teaching, curriculum development, and assessment.
- Strong understanding of child development and the legal context for education and safeguarding.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with diverse families.
- Ability to manage a caseload, prioritise tasks, and work independently.
- Experience in safeguarding and multi-agency working.
- Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
- Experience working directly with home-educating families.
- Understanding of alternative education approaches and pedagogies.
- Experience in policy development or service planning.
- Continued professional body registration (QTS).
