Roles and Requirements This is an exciting time to join a highly motivated team. We are looking to recruit Attendance & Welfare Advisors to join our team working with schools and their families, to help play a central role in achieving positive outcomes for children and young people in Tower Hamlets by improving school attendance. We’re looking for someone who has experience of working with schools and families, understands the implication of poor school attendance. What matters too is that you’re resilient, solution focused, and you have exceptional communication skills. Working as part of the Behaviour & Attendance Support Team, you will work to safeguard and support the wellbeing of children and young people in Tower Hamlets with a focus on Early Help and Early Intervention. You will contribute to the raising of achievement by improving attendance at school, working with other officers in the directorate to provide co-ordinated support to schools and to disseminate good practice. You will provide a specialised professional service to assist the LA in meeting its statutory obligations with regard to school attendance and the welfare of pupils. You will monitor school attendance levels, to assist and participate in the development and review of whole school attendance policies and evaluate their operation and effectiveness. As part of this important role, you will have regular written and verbal communication with parents, schools (including Headteachers), other internal Tower Hamlets teams as well as other London local authorities. You must have good time and record keeping skills, and the capacity to adapt to new and challenging environments. IT skills in Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets and email are essential. You should also be a lively and engaged team player, willing to get stuck in and, above all, love working with children and young people. You will need a thorough knowledge of the education system and understanding of the importance of Early Help and Early Intervention to the education and wellbeing of children and of the importance of regular attendance to achievement. You will also have a substantial knowledge and understanding of the statutory duties and responsibilities related to school attendance and child and family wellbeing as contained in relevant legislation and guidance.
