About the Role
The Principal Social Worker is a senior leadership position responsible for ensuring the delivery of ethical, effective and child‑centred social work practice across the children’s services. The role involves strategic leadership, safeguarding policy implementation, workforce development and partnership work with health, education and community organisations.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership and Advice: operate at a senior level to influence council strategy, provide professional advice to the DCS and ensure statutory compliance. Oversee frameworks to improve social work practice, audit cases and maintain a consistent, high‑standard approach across adult social care. Lead and support the social care workforce, facilitate effective supervision and create a positive learning culture.
- Safeguarding Leadership: drive the strategic safeguarding agenda to ensure a robust response to concerns and promote safeguarding that is personal.
- Connect Frontline and Strategy: inform directors and senior staff about practice realities, including the impact of policies and demographic changes.
- Champion Best Practice: promote trauma‑informed, strengths‑based and human‑rights‑based approaches to practice.
Qualifications and Experience
