About The Role and Our Ideal Candidate

The role aims to sustain and/or resettle Sutton's residents at risk of homelessness within the private sector, to prevent escalation of homeless applications and reduce the number and length of stay of Sutton's homeless households in temporary accommodation.

Residents with uncertain future renting will therefore be best placed to maintain tenancies longer-term.

  • Sustain and/or resettle residents at risk of homelessness within the private sector and reduce the duration of stay in temporary accommodation.
  • Provide information, advice and guidance to members of the public on housing options, legislation, benefit entitlement, training and employment opportunities.
  • Collect and evaluate relevant information, applying legislation, policies and procedures to make clear, informed and consistent decisions on the appropriate course of action.
  • Use motivational interviewing or similar techniques to support individuals through personal change, aiming for outcome‑focused results.
  • Build positive relationships with clients and partner agencies, respecting diversity and challenging inequality and poor behaviour.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date case records in I. T. systems and record all information, advice and decisions.
  • Identify needs of vulnerable households, refer to other teams or agencies where necessary, and mitigate risks.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for personal learning, growth and actions, striving for high achievement and organisational success.

About You (Qualifications)

  • Good understanding of housing options, housing legislation, benefit entitlement, training and employment opportunities and the impact of welfare reform legislation.
  • Significant experience providing information, advice and guidance to the public in complex environments, with effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in motivational interviewing or similar intervention techniques, and a customer‑focused, diplomatic, empathetic attitude.
  • Creative and innovative approach to meeting clients’ needs, and ability to motivate and support individuals through personal change.
  • Strong ability to build positive relationships, work cooperatively with others, respect diversity and act on feedback.
  • Proficiency in maintaining detailed case records in I. T. systems and accurately recording information.
  • Ability to recognise vulnerable household needs, refer appropriately, and assess/mitigate risks to clients.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for learning and development, achieving high personal performance.
