The post holder will help meet the College’s strategic goals, especially targeting priority groups under the Adult Skills Fund, and will collaborate with the Head of Curriculum & Quality to deliver a high‑quality programme aligned with learner and employer needs.

Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate all courses you are responsible for, ensuring key elements are considered around exams and internal college syllabi.
- Deliver stimulating sessions that inspire learners, ensuring learning is engaging, relevant and aligned to the current Scheme of Learning and the Intent & specification for the course.
- Set high expectations for learners from the start, embedding college and course expectations, key British Values and life skills.
- Manage the learning process effectively, guiding and supporting learners, differentiating teaching to meet diverse needs, and ensuring they are appropriately challenged and supported.
- Upload all relevant teaching, learning and assessment materials to the virtual learning environment, keeping them up to date and aligned to unit delivery.
- Keep learner, group and progress tracking documents updated weekly and monthly, including accurate recording of attendance and punctuality.
- Set challenging objectives relevant to the course intent and learners’ development.
- Agree individual learning plans with learners, setting SMART course and personal targets, and review them regularly, providing meaningful feedback.
- Systematically assess learners’ work, giving timely and developmental written and verbal feedback.
- Involve learners in reflecting on, evaluating and improving their performance.
- Give subject‑specialist information, advice and support to learners, including progression advice or referrals to careers teams.
- Identify, refer and plan additional support for learners by liaising with the learning support team.
- Work with the exams team, curriculum support and other teams to ensure accurate records for learners, including exam registrations and schedules.
- Plan opportunities for learners to experience out‑of‑classroom contexts such as placements, volunteering, visits to libraries, museums and employment settings.
- Work with the Head of Curriculum & Quality to support the development of programs that enable learners to gain new skills, qualifications and knowledge for personal goals and employment.
- Support marketing by participating in key events at the college and externally, promoting courses to new learners or employers.
- Write detailed and accurate course outlines to support promotion of the department and college.
- Carry out interviews for prospective learners, including initial and diagnostic assessments.
- Attend departmental, college and external meetings as required, with attendance paid at the set meeting rate.
- Keep up to date with internal and external assessments and examinations, including keeping appropriate records and completing returns.
- Liaise with the exams team to support smooth operation of internal and external examinations.
- Undertake and keep up to date Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding, Prevent and GDPR training, and report concerns to the relevant staff.
- Comply with the Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers in Education and Training as per college policy.
- Undertake other duties commensurate to the grade of the post, including supporting the priorities and management of the College as a whole.
- Take responsibility for own professional development in consultation with the Line Manager.
- Carry out all duties in accordance with College Policies and procedures, including Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, Data Protection, core values, confidentiality and relevant procedures.
- Be a proactive and effective team member working flexibly and efficiently toward department targets and overall College strategic targets.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the Line Manager or their delegated deputy, supporting the improvement, growth and sustainability of the College.
Qualifications & Experience
- An appropriate teaching qualification for the Post 16 sector (e. g., DET, Cert. Ed. or equivalent), or willingness to complete a Level 4 qualification within the first year.
- A qualification in the subject specialism (at least Level 4, e. g., HND, 1st Degree) or in‑depth knowledge and a minimum of three years’ substantial experience in teaching English/Maths.
- Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) qualifications in English and Mathematics.
- A1 Assessors qualification or equivalent.
- V1 Verifiers qualification or equivalent.
- Experience teaching in an adult education or further education post‑16 college/training environment.
- Experience teaching a range of levels up to GCSE English/Maths, including preparation for GCSE and functional skills.
- Experience of quality improvement processes that support and develop practice.
