Job Introduction

Community Safety Officer PO3 – 43,545 – 52,767 Fixed term until 31 March 2027 or Secondment Full Time (36 hours per week) Wandsworth Town Hall, 98 Wandsworth High Street, London SW18 2PP Advanced DBS required; Strong knowledge of Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) essential.

Objective of Role

You will lead and coordinate community safety initiatives within Wandsworth, working strategically with partners to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour, and improve community cohesion. Your role supports the objectives of the Safer and Stronger Communities Team, focusing on prevention, partnership working, and problem-solving to make communities safer. The Service works on key themes including Serious Violence, Offender Management, Anti-Social Behaviour, Neighbourhoods, Domestic Abuse, Prevent and Radicalisation and Hate Crime.

The Community Safety Officer role is non-uniformed and predominantly non-enforcement as it is a strategic and partnership role which sits within the Community Safety Service and reports directly into the Community Safety Partnership Board.

About the Role

  • Coordinate key crime prevention work in line with the local community safety plans for Richmond and Wandsworth which may involve community engagement events and commissioning of projects to meet gaps in services within your area.
  • Engage with residents, councillors, and senior officers to address community safety concerns.
  • Develop and implement local community safety plans, including commissioning services.
  • Ensure compliance with key legislation such as the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
  • You will need to have effective problem-solving skills and the ability to produce timely briefings/reports on key initiatives and their outcomes.
  • Work flexibly across Wandsworth Town Hall, community venues, and from home.
  • Knowledge of the ECINS platform is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of Section 17 Crime and Disorder Act 1998, ASB Crime and Policing Act 2014, and Crime and Policing Bill 2025.
  • Strong experience using ASB tools and powers.
  • Knowledge of contextual safeguarding or a trauma informed approach would be useful.
  • Ensuring you familiarise yourself with the councils’ policies as well as key legislation is fundamental to the role.
  • Proven ability to reduce crime and ASB through partnership and problem-solving models.
  • Understanding of multi-agency working, including panels, information sharing, and data protection.
  • Ability to build and strengthen partnerships across statutory and voluntary sectors.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and an ability to respond appropriately to the audience as you will be in contact with lead members (councillors), residents and senior officers.
  • An understanding of multi-agency problem solving is essential along with knowledge of how key agencies work to make communities safer.
