There is a lot going on in Redbridge. Ambitious regeneration plans will transform how the borough looks and feels and will be vital to creating greater economic opportunities for our residents. We are reshaping our organisation to be better equipped to have the greatest impact for our community. This is a new senior role within the Council – created as part of our commitment to the wellbeing of our staff and to ensure a more consistent approach to this fundamental issue.
This is your chance to be part of a new management team with a mandate for change and a shared sense of purpose. You will be the corporate lead for health and safety across the whole Council estate – including council buildings, leisure facilities and schools. You will lead on the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and review of the Council’s health and safety strategy, policies, standards and management systems. You’ll ensure effective leadership for the operational activity and performance of the Corporate Health & Safety Service.
Working in collaboration with colleagues across the organisation, you will ensure a proactive and accountable approach to managing health and safety in all departments, and that colleagues have access to the professional advice and training that they need to meet their obligations. It demands the ability to affect operational and cultural change, as we look to embed good practice into people’s behaviours. You’ll keep fully up to date on current legislation and good practice/industry guidance to ensure a well-informed and current understanding of how to enable a safe working environment and practices.
The development of a corporate system to measure and report on health and safety performance will be an early priority. It’s an opportunity that will suit someone with proven experience of managing health and safety in a public sector environment, and who appreciates the diversity of estate and working practices that a multidisciplinary council setting presents.
We’re looking for someone with practical experience of planning, developing and implementing health and safety management systems. You should be professionally qualified and be a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH). It’s also important that you have experience of managing change programmes and of leading and motivating a high performing team – developing and enabling talent to build capacity.
Visit www.redbridgenextlevel.co.uk to apply. Or you can contact Steve Guest or Amy Billington at Solace in Business on 020 7976 3311 for a confidential discussion. Closing date: Monday 6th April (noon).
