About the Role

Permanent – Full Time

Redbridge is one of the most dynamic and diverse boroughs in London. This role places you at the centre of political decision‐making and governance in the Council. As the strategic lead for constitutional and electoral services, you will ensure that our democratic processes are efficient, ethical, and accountable and that they align with the Council's constitution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold statutory responsibility for the Council's scrutiny function and provide high‐quality leadership, advice, and challenge to members, officers, partners and residents.
  • Ensure the Constitution, Procedure Rules and the Scheme of Delegation are current, in line with statutory requirements and fully understood by key decision makers.
  • Embed good governance principles in the Council's operations and promote their importance to stakeholders.
  • Provide rigorous, impartial advice to elected members and senior colleagues so that decision‐making is well‐informed, transparent and the pace of progress is not hindered without compromising scrutiny and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of constitutional and electoral council functions.
  • Ability to establish professional credibility and trust across the political spectrum.
  • Strong relational and communication skills.
  • Objective, impartial, and outcome‐focused approach.
  • Proof of right to work in the United Kingdom is required for shortlisted applicants.
