The predicted salary is between 30000 - 31611 £ per year.

2 x 36 hour fixed term contract until 31st March 2027. Salary £30,288 - £31,611 per annum.

Newham Libraries is an ambitious library service that plays a pivotal role in improving the quality of life of our residents. The service prioritises a representative and relevant book stock, Reading for Pleasure for all, a developing Digital Lending offer, the Summer Reading Challenge, an Under 5s offer, and delivering a high quality library service across 10 libraries with extensive opening hours and events.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with transactions and provide information and sign-posting as needed.
  • Shelving of books and creating/maintaining book displays.
  • Provide digital assistance and basic digital skills sessions.
  • Run or support events and activities, including Under 5s storytimes; promote books and reading.
  • May support outreach activities or resident forums as required.
  • As duty managers, open and close buildings, take bookings and payments, oversee staff activity, and perform cashing up/banking functions.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Excellent customer care skills and enjoyment in helping people; passion for the role of libraries in providing opportunities for residents.
  • Libraries or similar customer-focused experience; love reading and discussing books; interest in STEM and digital engagement.
  • Good level of literacy, numeracy, and IT skills; experience of running activities; ability to engage with the public.
