Team Lead (Private Sector Housing Standards)

Salary: £57,402 - £60,573 per annum (Grade LPO7)

Responsibilities: Manage a team of Senior/Environmental Health/Private Sector Housing Officers and Tenancy Liaison Officers (TLOs). Oversee private sector enforcement including the TLO illegal evictions and serious harassment workstream, manage data sets, deliver outputs, report to senior managers, identify team training needs, build collaborations, and conduct inspections.

Requirements

• BSc/MSc in Environmental Health (or equivalent), EHRB or CIEH registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner (REnvH or CEnvH).
• Minimum of 4 years’ post-qualification experience, with experience managing complex housing projects and enforcement cases.
• Expert knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS, evidential court/tribunal procedures, and the Renters’ Rights Act 2025.
• Leadership, project management, and excellent communication skills. Occasional out-of-hours work may be required.

Senior Environmental Health Officer / Senior Environmental Health Practitioner

Salary: £52,194 - £55,323 per annum (Grade PO5)

Responsibilities: Carry out multi‑agency inspections of unlicensed properties, licence condition checks, and disrepair inspections. Manage your own caseload, make confident decisions, and support colleagues in resolving complex cases.

Requirements

• Fully qualified SEHO/SEHP with a good working knowledge of private sector housing in a local government setting.
• Expert knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS, and experience compiling evidence for court and First‑Tier Tribunals.
• Ability to supervise people, lead housing enforcement/multi‑agency operations, and work flexibly on your own initiative.

Senior Private Sector Housing Officer (SPSHO)

Salary: £52,194 - £55,323 per annum (Grade PO5)

Responsibilities: Conduct multi‑agency inspections regarding disrepair, property licensing, and unlicensed properties. Balance reactive casework with proactive project work to protect tenants and make the sector fairer.

Requirements

• Experienced, hard‑working officer with a local government background in housing standards.
• Expert knowledge of the Housing Act 2004, practical experience serving legal notices, and strong competency using HHSRS.
• Proven capability to lead enforcement cases, manage projects, delegate tasks, and motivate team members.

Private Sector Housing Officer

Salary: £49,056 - £52,194 per annum (Grade PO4)

Responsibilities: Work within the PSHS team carrying out property inspections, checking licence conditions, and addressing disrepair. Handle a mix of casework and project work to support tenants and address complex rental sector housing problems.

Requirements

• Recent practical experience and competency in the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS rating system, and serving legal notices.
• Knowledge of compiling evidence for court/tribunal proceedings.
• Flexible team player with a problem‑solving attitude, good IT skills, and the confidence to manage an independent caseload.
