36 Hours per week Monday - Saturday. Newham Libraries is an ambitious library service that plays a pivotal role in improving the quality of life of our residents. The service is well placed within the Council and works closely with Public Health and other services. Key priorities for the service are ensuring that our book stock is representative of and relevant to our communities; encouraging Reading for Pleasure for all; developing our Digital Lending offer; building on our innovative approach to the Summer Reading Challenge; developing our Under 5s offer; and delivering a high quality library offer.

Salary and Term: £41,133 - £43,680 per annum, 12 months Fixed Term.

The Library Supervisor position is a key role within our service, line managing the frontline library assistants and reporting to the neighbourhood Coordinator. They will ensure that the library runs smoothly and professionally, managing the team and resources efficiently and effectively. They will lead by example, setting the expected standards for the team and ensuring that they are adhered to. They will undertake training and continuous development of both their team and themselves, managing performance and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop the frontline library team; manage performance and provide training and ongoing development.
  • Ensure smooth daily library operations, effective use of staff and resources, and high-quality customer service.
  • Oversee the presentation of library stock and collaborate with the stock team to ensure stock is representative and engaging for customers with appealing displays.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners to deliver impactful events and activities that align with the 7 DCMS outcomes for libraries.
  • Collaborate with peers and support the wider service as needed; problem solve creatively to resolve incidents.
  • Model and promote the organisation’s values, and uphold a culture of continuous improvement and customer focus.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experienced frontline team leader, preferably with a libraries background.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a resident-focused approach.
  • Ability to train, support and motivate a team to deliver a high-quality library service.
  • Attention to presentation of stock and willingness to work with stock teams on representation and relevance for customers.
  • Good relationship-building skills and ability to work with a range of partners to deliver events and activities.
  • Proactive, flexible, and capable of creative problem solving to resolve incidents.
