Job Title & Salary

Environmental Crime Enforcement Officer

£41,133 – £43,680 per annum

Job Description

Based at Folkestone Road Depot, Newham is an aspirational inner‑city borough with great potential and a clear vision based on building wealth within the community. Proud to be one of the youngest and most diverse boroughs in the UK, 72% of our residents are from ethnically diverse communities, speaking over 220 languages.

As an Enforcement Officer, you will undertake enforcement activity in order to tackle crime and anti‑social behaviour across the Borough. The work is challenging and rewarding, responding to the requests and expectations for a cleaner and safer Borough where our residents choose to live, work and stay. Proactive patrols are undertaken on foot, cycle or motor vehicle, conducting investigations and enforcement action for breaches of relevant criminal legislation.

The role involves working directly with the Police, partner organisations and other council officers including those from Environmental Services, Youth Services, Planning Enforcement, Highways, Cleansing and Housing. Our overarching aim is enforcement, problem solving, behavioural change and community engagement.

About You

Excellent communication skills are essential together with an enthusiasm and desire to improve the Borough’s environment for its residents and businesses. You must be able to patrol alone as well as work as part of a team. You will undertake problem‑solving investigations, reassurance patrols and join multi‑agency operations. You may face potentially confrontational situations but with your training and personal skills you will be able to resolve these successfully in a confident and understanding manner, while maintaining a high standard of ethics and professional conduct.

Experience of enforcement or regulatory work is useful, but not essential. You will undergo a comprehensive training programme and be mentored through your probation period. You must work outdoors in all weathers and for long periods on foot, vehicle and cycle. You are required to possess a full (manual) current driving licence and to pass the Council’s driving test. You must also be able to use a range of technology including smartphones, radios and body‑worn cameras. Training will be provided for this equipment and use of in‑house computer systems.

Please attach your supporting statement, explaining in no more than two A4 pages why and how you meet the criteria for this role.
