The London Borough of Merton is seeking a Planning Officer within the Development Management section of the Planning Service. We are looking for an enthusiastic person with strong technical skills to manage a caseload of planning applications and other various types of planning related applications within the Development Management function of the Council.
Our DM teams are currently undergoing change to ensure that they are up-to-date and fit for purpose, and that we have great career progression opportunities to enable our planners to benefit as they gain in experience and acquire new skills.
Our planning department deals with a wide variety of often exciting and complex applications as well as the more general day to day applications. You will assess applications submitted to the Development Management service as well as liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, including architects, planners, developers and elected members. Having strong interpersonal skills is a must, as is the need to juggle conflicting responsibilities within tight deadlines.
As Planning Officer, you will make a significant contribution to the regeneration of the borough through the innovative and practical development of proposals for planning permission to ensure that growth and regeneration in the borough is in line with the Merton Local Plan and associated documents. You will assess and write up officer and committee reports, ensuring that Council targets are met.
