Job Description:
Why to join us?
Merton is engaging in an exciting period of improving its arrangements for SEND. We are looking for individuals who thrive on daily challenge, enjoy working as part of a team and who want to make a difference to the experience of families of children with SEND as they work with the Council to put arrangements in place for their children.
We are a great team to work with. We need βcan-doβ people with the right knowledge and experience. We need people who will be committed to their work, creative, good problem solvers and able to build good relationships with team colleagues and all those we work with.
The team is based in Morden. Whilst hybrid working is part of our life at the moment, in time you will be expected to work from our office.
About our ideal candidate
We are looking for people with experience of working as an EHC Co-ordinator or a Local Authority SEND Case Officer/Co-ordinator who:
- understands how schools and other educational settings make provision for children with SEND, whether this is at SEN Support or through provisions specified in an EHC Plan.
- have prepared draft EHC Plans, and are familiar with the type of professional reports that are used at various stages in the EHC assessment, planning and review process
- have experience of working with a range of educational settings to plan, review and monitor provision for children with EHC Plans.
- have successful experience in working with parents throughout the various stages of the statutory process, and ideally, have been involved in resolving parental concerns and building their confidence
- have the ability to write good quality EHCPβs that are specified and quantified and comply with statutory guidance.
-Whilst your core duties will focus on the assessment, review and monitoring of children and young people with special educational needs who have or might require an EHC Plan, it will be the way that you apply your knowledge and experience that really counts. We need individuals with excellent communication skills β both oral and in writing.
-You need to be resilient because the pace of work can be intense at times. You will have excellent reading and analytical skills, and an ability to apply key aspects of SEND law and guidance (as set out in the SEND Code of Practice). You will naturally be a good team player and want to do the very best you can at all times.
-You need a good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice , Children and Families Act and understand the equality issues associated with SEN and Disability.
