We are looking for a proactive and creative team member to join Merton Council\’s high-performing external communications function. With a new structure and communications strategy, it\’s an exciting time to join us! The team is taking forward the council\’s ambitions and strategic objectives to help Build a Better Merton for everyone

  • Support the council\’s mission to serve our community with trusted information.
  • Create brilliant communications content that raises awareness about the council\’s priorities and activities across our channels, including videos, images and basic graphic design.
  • Create impactful and influential behaviour change campaigns.
  • Put together clear and targeted communications plans with measurable objectives and outcomes.
  • Work closely with council service teams to deliver effective and creative communications within designated portfolio areas.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to work with the media, local stakeholders, community organisation to promote the council\’s services, policies and objectives.
  • Handle urgent media enquiries in a timely way, providing accurate and thorough responses.
  • Engage audiences using a full mix of digital communications.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders, councillors, and stakeholders providing trusted communications advice.
  • Support the delivery of consultations within designated portfolio areas.
  • Guard the council\’s reputation and advise in response to brand management, and crisis communications.
  • Be an expert adviser on external communications approaches and best practice across the organisation.
