The role involves:

  • Working as part of a team and independently to improve the standard of the private sector housing stock in the borough.
  • Proactively identifying and issuing licenses for residential accommodation.
  • Improving poor living conditions and enforcing statutory provisions as an Authorised Officer under the Council’s scheme of delegations.

The job is primarily based in Laurence House, 1 Catford Rd, London SE6 4RU but operates a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.

We’re looking for someone who is substantially experienced in investigating and enforcing housing standards in the private rented sector alongside delivering and enforcing HMO and selective licensing schemes in line with local policy and national housing legislation. You will hold a HHSRS qualification (or another relevant qualification) and have detailed knowledge of housing legislation, property construction, building regulations, planning requirements, disrepair, property maintenance, landlord and tenant rights and the effects of housing conditions on health.

  • All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
  • Relevant HHSRS qualification (or another relevant qualification) is needed.
