Job Description
Lambeth Music Service is seeking an enthusiastic Steel Pans tutor to join our team, delivering MX Pans and Pan tuition to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils in a Lambeth primary school. This placement will take place on Monday afternoons during school time, with the possibility of additional after-school work on the same day.
The tutor will lead whole-class steel pan sessions, helping pupils develop their rhythm, ensemble awareness, listening skills, confidence, and general musicianship. MX Pans gives children the opportunity to learn through practical, inclusive music-making, while building the foundations for a broad and exciting musical future.
We are looking for someone who is confident delivering engaging group lessons, able to manage a primary classroom setting, and passionate about helping children experience the joy of playing music together. Experience teaching steel pans in schools, community settings, or whole-class ensemble contexts would be especially welcome.
Successful applicants will be added to our team of sessional music tutors and will also be offered other work as it becomes available, which may include further whole-class ensemble tuition, peripatetic teaching, and teaching at our Saturday Music Centre.
Lambeth Music Service is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people and expects all tutors to share in this commitment. Successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and references will be taken.
We operate an anonymised application process, so be sure to remove personal details when uploading your CV or personal statement. At Lambeth, we are dedicated to providing quality services and equal opportunities for all. We are committed to safer recruitment and are proud to be a Stonewall diversity champion, a Living Wage Employer, and to guarantee interviews for all disabled candidates who meet the minimum criteria of the role.
