About the Borough:
Located in the heart of South London, Lambeth has a vibrant community of over 317,000 residents. Stretching from Streatham in the South to the iconic landmarks of Waterloo in the North, we are proud to be the 9th largest borough in London. Our diversity is our strength, with more than 130 languages spoken, Lambeth is the home of the Windrush generation, London\'s largest LGBTQ+ community, a thriving Portuguese-speaking community, and many others.
With a River Thames frontage, rich built heritage, and an appetite for growth, Lambeth offers an enriching and dynamic environment to work in.
About the Role:
The Lambeth Design Review Panel (DRP) is an independent panel of multi-disciplinary experts on the built-environment who, since 2019, has been reviewing emerging planning proposals to help Lambeth Council deliver design excellence.
We want to continue to deliver high quality, sustainable places that people are proud to live in and Lambeth’s DRP will assist us in considering new proposals from the outset to support this ambition.
The individual panellists for each Design Review session are drawn from a pool of built environment experts; and paid a daily rate for their work. Please note that inclusion on the pool is no guarantee of regular involvement in Design Reviews. Reviews are held in person either at Lambeth Town Hall Brixton, or at architect’s practices in inner London.
We are currently undertaking a full review of the DRP to ensure we have a wider pool of expertise and help us to broaden the diversity of the panel recruiting panel members to join the DRP pool, seeking suitably qualified people with a proven professional record in any one of the following specialisms:
Design of large, highly sustainable, climate resilient new-build and retrofit schemes (with a working-knowledge of the associated technical matters); Built heritage, where it relates to townscape and visual impact assessment of tall buildings including impacts on heritage significance, and designated views. Inclusive design including health and wellbeing, child and age friendly design in everyday built-environment scenarios; and Accessibility and designing for people with disabilities
We especially encourage applications from people from the Black, Asian and Multiethnic communities and while the role is open to all applicants, Lambeth will utilise the positive action provisions of the Equality Act 2010 to appoint a candidate from underrepresented groups where there is a choice between two candidates of equal merit.
