Residential Environmental Health | Islington Council

Annual salary: £57,495 - £60,633

Working Pattern: Full time, 35 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent

The Role

You’ll lead a team of officers in either our proactive or reactive service, driving performance and delivering strong regulatory outcomes.

  • Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing team
  • Drive inspections, investigations and enforcement action
  • Take ownership of complex cases, prosecutions and appeals
  • Act as a technical expert in housing legislation
  • Use data and insight to improve performance and outcomes
  • Lead on shaping policy, procedures, systems and service improvements
  • Support delivery of new powers under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025

About You

You are a confident, solutions-focused leader with:

  • Environmental Health qualifications and experience in the regulation of the Private Rented Sector
  • Management or supervisory experience
  • A strong track record in enforcement and complex casework
  • Excellent knowledge of key housing legislation
  • The ability to lead teams, make decisions and drive results
  • Strong communication skills and a resident-focused mindset
