We are excited to advertise for One Residential Support Worker’s position to join our committed and highly valued staff team.

The main role is to work as Residential Support Worker rostered rota that reflects the needs of the service, or as required by the Assistant Managers and Registered unit manager. To assist in the day to day running of the Unit, to provide a comprehensive range of services to children and young people with physical or learning disabilities and their families / carers with aim to offer and maximise life opportunities and experiences.

To follow practices that comply with policies and procedures set by the Department and Unit, including standards and requirements set by the Children Act 1989, Care Standards Act 2000, National Minimum Standards and Children\'s Homes Regulations 2015.

To work as part of a team to provide a high standard of care that meets the needs of children and young people being Looked After or being provided short breaks services. To work within a framework which safeguards and promotes their well-being.

To follow an assessment framework that encompasses implementation of a care planning and risk assessment structure, which will consider all the physical, psychological, emotional, health, behavioural and independent or dependent needs of children and young people with a disability.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

Westbrook Short Breaks and Resource Unit provide high quality short breaks and flexible support services through a range of measures, in order to support disabled children and young people to live within their family and community within the London Borough of Hounslow.

The Service aims to provide a safe nurturing environment for disabled children and young people, based on the premise that their needs and welfare are paramount and should be met on an individual basis.

Our over-arching ethos is to provide a service that recognises children’s rights, promotes opportunity, and provides stimulating, creative and varied environments which are conducive to promoting individual development and maximising quality of life and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective safeguarding and well-being of Children & Young people are paramount during daily practice.
  • Actively promote individuals’ rights, obtain and document the views of the Child with the sole aim towards a person-centred and holistic approach to their care.
  • To work positively with colleagues in the team and across the organisation to ensure consistent best practice.
  • At all times respects confidentiality and the dignity of others.

Your Skills

  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and communicate effectively with colleagues, parents and other professionals.
  • Ability to utilise a range of techniques to communicate with children and young people given the level of their needs.
  • Ability to undertake key working responsibilities and have knowledge in devising, implementing & reviewing care plans / training programmes, completing risk assessments with particular regard to young people\'s skills and abilities with a focus to maximise life opportunities.
  • Knowledge in understanding the care and developmental needs of children and young people with learning or physical disabilities.

Essential For The Role

Qualifications or must have experience before applying

Experience of working with children and young people in a residential setting, childcare setting, and teaching or youth work capacity.

NVQ Level 3 in Social Care with Children (As of April 2012 Workforce Diploma Level 3 in Residential Child care) or equivalent is essential for this post, therefore, you will be required to hold this qualification on appointment or be committed to working towards achieving this qualification within 12 months of commencement in post.

Sound knowledge of the relevant Legislations in relation to working within a Children’s short break Unit; such as The Children’s Home Regulations 2015, The Children Act 1989, National Minimum Standards, Care Standards Act 2000 and Ofsted legislation.

An enhanced DBS is required for this role.

This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the employee specification.

  • Ability to undertake key working responsibilities and have knowledge in devising, implementing & reviewing care plans / training programmes, evidencing outcomes, completing risk assessments with particular regard to young people\'s skills and abilities with a focus to maximise life opportunities.
