About The Role

We are looking for an individual who has a proven record of working with children and young people within a Youth Justice Service. They will understand the challenges children may face, support staff to build positive relationships with the children and the families they work with, and develop strong partnerships. The individual will manage conflicting demands of a busy Youth Justice Team, work with others to build a strong supportive multi-agency team to keep children and the community safe, develop processes to support staff to complete timely and robust assessments, plans and reports and be a confident and creative manager who drives continuous development of the service. They will have excellent knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements of a Youth Justice Service and will use this to build an outstanding service.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

The Hounslow Youth Justice Service is a multi-agency team and an integral part of the wider Adolescent Service, which includes a statutory adolescent social work team, an early help and prevention team and a dedicated social work team at Feltham YOI. Hounslow has a strong commitment to developing an early help and prevention offer to reduce children and their families becoming known to the service. We are committed to developing our “own staff” and this includes offering apprenticeships, student placements, welcoming ASYE, as well as providing a strong training offer and career-progressing opportunities for our more experienced staff and managers. The Team is based at Hounslow House, a modern office building in central Hounslow in a busy multicultural community with good transport connections. There is an opportunity for office-based and home working, dependent on the needs of the service. The Team is committed to hearing the voices of the children we work with and their families and victims to develop and improve the service we offer.

About You

You have a strong background in youth justice, will have management and/or supervisory experience and want to move to the next step of your career. You will be a good communicator and be able to work confidently with partners, senior officers and elected members. You have a strong understanding of the Youth Justice legislative and regulatory frameworks, can ensure policy and procedure are adhered to, and review this as required. You will have started to develop an understanding of local and national policy developments in relation to youth justice and how this may impact on the Hounslow YJS. You will be able to support the planning and oversight of the YJS budget and contribute to the development of the department and the wider Local Authority.

Qualifications

A qualified Social Worker (SWE registered), Probation Officer or equivalent professional/academic qualification (e.g. health, education, youth and community work) relevant to the job profile alongside significant demonstrable experience within the Youth Justice Sector.
