About The Role
As an Activity Coordinator within the Sandbanks Care Home, you will play an important role in enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life of residents by planning and delivering a varied programme of person‑centred activities and entertainment tailored to individual interests, abilities and needs. Activities may include arts and crafts, music and singing sessions, reminiscence therapy, sensory stimulation, gentle exercise, baking, gardening, themed events and one‑to‑one engagement. You will work closely with residents living with dementia and age‑related frailty, using compassionate, creative and flexible approaches to encourage participation, maintain independence, reduce social isolation and support emotional wellbeing. You will be expected to observe, evaluate and document residents’ responses and participation to ensure activities remain meaningful, enjoyable and adapted to changing needs. The role also involves maintaining accurate activity records, contributing to care plans, and working collaboratively with care staff, families, healthcare professionals and external organisations to promote a positive and supportive environment. In addition, you will help strengthen community links by developing relationships with local schools, religious groups, entertainers, volunteers and community organisations to encourage inclusion and social engagement for residents. It is essential that applicants have previous experience working within a care home or similar setting and have a good understanding of dementia care and the needs of older people. Experience in providing meaningful activities for residents living with dementia, sensory impairment or reduced mobility would be highly desirable.
About The Team
Sandbanks is a residential care home for older people located in Bedfont, Middlesex. The home provides care and support for up to 60 residents, the majority of whom are living with dementia, age‑related frailty and complex care needs. The home is divided into six individual units, each supporting 10 residents, enabling a more personalised and homely environment where person‑centred care and meaningful engagement can be delivered effectively. As an Activity Coordinator, you will work closely with residents, care workers, duty officers and the management team to plan and deliver stimulating, therapeutic and enjoyable activities that promote wellbeing, independence, dignity and social inclusion. You will report directly to the duty officers and collaborate with the wider care team to ensure activities are carried out safely, effectively and in line with residents’ individual care plans, preferences and abilities.
About You
You are a motivated, caring and reliable individual who is committed to achieving high standards of conduct, attendance and professionalism. You are passionate about enhancing the lives of older people living with dementia and frailty and understand the importance of delivering meaningful, person‑centred activities that promote wellbeing, dignity, independence and social inclusion. You will have the creativity and organisational skills to plan and deliver a varied programme of activities tailored to residents’ individual needs, preferences, abilities and life experiences. You will be able to adapt activities to support residents living with cognitive impairment, sensory loss, reduced mobility or complex health needs, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate and feel valued. You will also be responsible for accurately documenting residents’ participation, responses, wellbeing outcomes and engagement in activities in a timely and professional manner. You are someone who continuously seeks new ideas, builds positive community links and introduces innovative approaches to improve residents’ experiences within the home.
