Who You Are

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated team player with a strong customer focus and technical knowledge. You should possess excellent communication skills and be flexible in your work approach, supporting other officers when necessary. A good working knowledge of IT systems, including MS Office and case management systems, is essential. You hold a relevant qualification as listed in the Food Law Code of Practice, with post-qualification experience. Competence under the Food Law Code to inspect high-risk food businesses and enforcement under the Health & Safety at Work Act is required. A copy of your competency framework and current CPD should be available upon request. A full driver's license, own vehicle, and business insurance are mandatory. You should also be registered as an Environmental Health Practitioner.

What the Job Involves

As a Public Protection Officer, you will deliver our food hygiene and standards inspection programme and investigate complaints on food and health & safety matters. This role involves various functions, including health & safety at work, accident investigations, and infectious disease control. You'll provide feedback on licensing and planning applications and participate in event consultations. Your responsibilities include appropriate enforcement per the Council's policy, offering advice, responding to complaints, and serving notices. Court attendance for evidence presentation and prosecution leading is expected. You'll manage a multi-disciplined enforcement caseload, including monitoring visits at unsociable hours. The role is hybrid, with home working and office presence in Romford, plus necessary site visits. Please note the rate is £40/hr.
