About the role

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Functional Skills (FS) English Lecturer to join Hammersmith and Fulham Adult Learning and Skills Service. This 0.5 role will support the continued development and delivery of our English provision across the borough, ensuring adults gain the literacy skills they need for life, learning and work.

The FS English Lecturer will deliver engaging and inclusive teaching and learning, ensuring high standards across planning, delivery and assessment. The post holder will work within government‑funded adult education frameworks and contribute to maintaining excellence across Ofsted, audit and compliance requirements. They will produce high‑quality lesson plans, schemes of work and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and deliver accredited Functional Skills English qualifications (Entry 1 to Level 2), with GCSE delivery being desirable.

A sound understanding of awarding body processes and quality assurance expectations is essential. The post holder will work with our Skills for Life team to support learners to develop reading, writing and communication skills while building confidence, resilience and independence. They will work particularly closely with less‑able and disadvantaged learners, ensuring that teaching approaches are adaptive, supportive and accessible.

They will also participate in interviews, initial assessments, ongoing reviews and curriculum development to ensure our English offer meets community needs and aligns with local priorities.

The successful candidate will hold a minimum Level 4 teaching qualification and have a strong background in teaching Functional Skills English to adults aged 19+ within government‑funded settings. They will demonstrate effective teaching practice, a commitment to high‑quality adult learning, and an understanding of sector‑wide quality standards.
