Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic neighbourhood. Stretching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it’s an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. In addition, it has more green spaces than any other inner London borough, some of the capital's finest schools, superb transport connections, excellent public services, and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors.

We also have some of the capital’s most exciting restaurants, approved food premises, food manufacture, markets selling exotic produce and some niche businesses, but these come with a number of challenges, including compliance with food safety regulations, health & safety, infectious disease control etc. Our Environmental Health Team is working hard to tackle these issues and right now we’re looking for an Officer to join this team.

You’ll be getting out and about in our vibrant, diverse communities, managing a busy caseload and building positive relationships with everyone you meet. An analytical thinker with a superb eye for detail, you’ll be keen to develop new ideas that support our ambitions. Self-motivated and ready to work on your own initiative, we’ll also expect you to have an Environmental Health qualification and meet the Food Standards Agency’s Food Law Code of Practice Framework.

For this role we are keen to hear from officers who have recently qualified or from those that have begun their professional portfolio journey as well experienced officers who are looking for a new challenge. Enjoy a superb work/life balance and an outstanding range of benefits.

We offer outstanding benefits, including the flexibility of hybrid working, a generous holiday allowance of 28 paid days, rising to 33 days (after 5 years) and membership of the excellent Local Government Pension Scheme. You’ll also enjoy a wide range of learning and development opportunities and a comprehensive range of other benefits including childcare vouchers, a staff pool bike scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, and discounts at leisure centres, restaurants, shops and other local establishments.

As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our goals as an organisation. We operate a fair and open anonymous selection process. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CV’s.
