Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from the 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

Hackney Council is undertaking an ambitious programme of regeneration across a number of housing estates and sites across the borough. We aim to transform places by building new neighbourhoods with well-designed housing, streets, and public spaces. The programme is building more than 3,000 new homes over the next 10 years and will deliver much needed new council rented, shared ownership and outright sale homes across Hackney.

Strategy, Assurance & Private Sector Housing is a highly skilled multi-disciplinary service that provides specialist support and leads on bespoke portfolios across the Regeneration, Economy & Housing Development division. We are seeking an experienced Senior Category Manager, Procurement (Construction and Environment). You will be responsible and accountable for effective procurement programme management, effective application of corporate procurement standards and controls, and the effective management of people resources and operations for identified key procurement projects within the service areas.

We are looking for someone with extensive senior procurement experience to provide high level specialist procurement advice to managers and co-ordinate procurement activities across the designated category, ensuring that service departments achieve best value from all their contracts and in the management of allocated contracts. You must have an in-depth knowledge of market engagement, contract management and regulations with a solid understanding of Public Contract Regulations processes.

As a Council, our most outstanding asset is our staff, who are highly dedicated to serving our residents and committed to our goals as an organisation. We operate a fair and open anonymous selection process. Therefore, we do not accept supporting statements or CVs. To proceed with your application, you will need to create an account and submit your application. As part of the application process, you will need to complete a number of competency-based questions. These questions allow you to demonstrate your suitability for the role and provide examples of your skills, knowledge and experience outlined in the job description.

We understand the benefits of using AI in the workplace. However, if you are thinking of using this tool to submit your application, we ask you to think about what value it will add. AI tools tend to lack the personal touch and authenticity we value in candidates. We encourage you to showcase your unique knowledge and skills using your own voice.

Closing date for applications: 18 April 2025 (22.59). Interviews: 1 May 2025.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included, and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
