Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values. Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first‑class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti‑racist borough. We are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity and across the poverty divide.
About Us

The service is responsible for designing, maintaining and improving the Borough’s street scene with responsibility for the design, maintenance and repair of highways, drainage, footways, bridges, street lighting and street furniture on public roads as set out in our statutory duties. We have a firm commitment to tackling air pollution and climate change, investing in our green space, supporting public transport and creating more liveable neighbourhoods. We want Hackney’s streets to be the most walking and cycle‑friendly in London, leading the push to build people‑focused neighbourhoods.

Maintain an internal and customer‑focussed approach, interacting with senior officers, residents and at times politicians.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge in highways, engineering, traffic management and/or transportation planning.
- Experience with new technologies such as AI to improve processes and services in professional environments.
Equal Opportunities
Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.
