Are you passionate about making a positive impact on improving air quality and encouraging sustainable modes of transportation? Hackney Council’s Parking Services, a multiple award-winning team recognised for its innovative parking policy solutions and commitment to sustainability, is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Policy and Projects Officer to join our dynamic team in a hybrid role.
Hackney Council’s Parking Services leads the way in implementing, managing, and enforcing effective parking controls across the borough. Our team is dedicated to improving air quality and reducing CO₂ emissions by prioritising sustainable travel methods, such as walking, cycling, car sharing, and public transport, over the use of private vehicles. We recognise that parking policy is a key tool councils have to tackle climate change and decrease our dependence on cars.
Our efforts have been integral to the success of initiatives like school streets, low-traffic neighbourhoods, and bus gates, which are designed to reduce car journeys, enhance safety, and lower air pollution. We work closely with other Public Realm Services on projects like car clubs, cycle hangars, and the rollout of electric vehicle charging points, all vital steps towards Hackney's 2030 net-zero carbon goals.
As a Policy and Projects Officer, you will lead and manage all aspects of projects from conception to delivery. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work both remotely and from our offices, allowing you to balance work-life commitments while playing a key role in implementing our five-year plan to improve Hackney's air quality and reduce CO₂ emissions. You will oversee the planning, execution, and completion of projects related to sustainable parking and transport initiatives, build effective working relationships with key stakeholders, and contribute to Hackney’s vision of a greener future.
We are seeking a highly organised individual with strong project management experience, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for sustainability. You should possess excellent analytical and customer service skills, demonstrate strong negotiation abilities, and be capable of independently managing a complex workload. A proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget is essential. This role is perfect for someone ready to take on a leadership position in a significant and impactful project while enjoying the flexibility of hybrid working.
We offer work-life balance: Standard 36-hour work week (Monday to Friday) with the flexibility of hybrid working; Generous holiday allowance of 28 paid days, rising to 33 days after 5 years, plus bank holidays. Comprehensive staff benefits: Including childcare vouchers, new technology schemes, Cyclescheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, and discounts at leisure centres, restaurants, shops, and other local establishments, Excellent pension scheme: Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and Professional development.
If you are ready to lead innovative projects that make a real difference, we would love to hear from you. For an informal conversation about the role, please call Gossica Anichebe, Policy and Projects Manager on 020 8356 3213.
